DAB in the U.K.
Sep 29th, 2009 by Jim Reyes
Over 20 years ago the Lord gave the founder of UCB Richard Berry a vision for Christian radio in the UK and only now in late 2009 does that look like it’s coming to fruition. That is perseverance…… and the man who has given much to make this happen is founding CEO Ian Mackie.
Digital radio……called DAB in the UK will replace both AM and FM by 2015. DAB will be the only way to ‘get’ radio’ . After 2013 all new cars must have DAB radios so UCB needs to be on DAB as a delivery platform…. and the wonderful thing!… the law does not stop us!… and there is a place for us… it is simply now just a case of money.

UCB now covers just over half the country with DAB and we have an opportunity to get a national signal – the same ‘frequency from Lands End to John O’Groats – one end of the UK to the other. These are exciting days and we are working hard to raise the funds to do this….and all this of course only possible because over 20 years ago Rhema supporters in NZ supported the push to get Christian radio in the UK.
But at the end of the day, we do this because of ‘The message’…. and it is The message that changes lives…not us!
For us, in it is all about the listener and it is their comments that keep us focused….. thought you might like to read one of many responses from our listeners.
I feel that listening to UCB is changing my life. I am a single mum and separated from my husband. It has been a hugely traumatic experience, but thankfully God has drawn me closer through it all. Your music, words from the Bible, teaching and the ‘Left Behind’ series all contribute to challenging me to keep on forgiving and trusting God still has a good plan for my life. Keep up the great work you are doing; it’s fantastic and thanks so much. – Joy
What a fantastic job you’re doing! Thanks be to God.
I find Word For Today such a great comfort. I cared for my husband for over two years while he was suffering with a brain tumour- your prayerline was a lifeline to me when I felt in utter despair. I find Word for Today has uplifted me so much since Terry passed away in March 2009.
What is the coverage for Norwich Norfolk or is there any yet?
What is the channel ID for DAB radio? I live in Axminster, so not sure if i could receive it there?
