News from UCB Canada
Feb 22nd, 2008 by Jim Reyes
It’s been three months since UCB’s launch here in Chatham-Kent and everything on this end is going very well. This is thanks in no small part to the great team of volunteers who help the paid staff bring Christian radio to your homes. I’d like to begin the year by introducing them to you.
Beth Germs, Orv Gleason and Mike Prisner make up the core of UCB Canada’s prayer team. They have been meeting for months and still gather to pray at the station Tuesday nights at 6:30. Marlie Dawson is our invaluable office administrator and resident Kiwi. Hers is the first voice you hear when you call the station. Karen Loney adds colour as co-host on the morning show and no longer says “absolutely”. Elaine Wolting and Carrie Nydam have broken into a new frontier of children’s ministry – Crazy Kids Corner airs weeknights at 7 sharp and everything’s going great! Wendy Beasley of Back to the Bible presents a nightly praise and worship hour from 6 till 7. Emerson McFaul, a Christian radio veteran who got his start many years ago in Belleville, is your host of Sunday Praise & Worship every Sunday from 10:30am – 1pm. Wendy Reaume lends us her huge talent for graphic design and is the creative effort behind our commercial rate card and many of our posters. Sarah Masters comes in twice a week from Windsor and does research for the morning show and will soon be taking on some promotions work. Last, but not least, Jim McLachlin of Royal Lepage Peifer Realty provides foreground information for Southern Gospel fans every Saturday night with the Southern Gospel Calendar and Southern Gospel Today during Saturday Night Gospel.
When I speak with these people, I admire their courage. Radio is a scary thing. Unlike many jobs, when you have a bad day in Radio, you have a bad day publicly. They are to be commended. These volunteers are part of the team, part of the UCB family. You can be as well by supporting us with your prayers and monthly financial support. Thank you in advance for helping to share the Gospel in southwestern Ontario!
By the way, our family’s December 14th move went well. After a busy Christmas season, we’re firmly planted in our new home and are looking forward to life in Chatham-Kent. Thanks to the many who prayed for us! All God’s best to you in 2008.
Yours truly,
Alan Baker
